Are you Emotionally Healthy?

Being emotionally healthy means having the ability to confront and face your emotions or feelings regardless of whether they are positive or not. Our emotional health is heavily dependent on how we think, feel, behave and act. Being emotionally healthy on the other hand doesn’t mean that you’ll always be happy and have an optimistic outlook on life.

Being emotionally unhealthy can cause you to  neglect other areas of your life. Poorly managed negative emotions to some extent have a negative effect even on our physical health. Bottom line in order to be emotionally healthy, you need to be mindful of your emotions.

We are always in a state of flux and you will always go through periods where you are emotionally healthy or unhealthy.

Some of the signs that you might exhibit when you are emotionally unhealthy include:

✦ Holding some type of resentment towards a person or life in general e.g.. Having fights with people in your head

✦ Giving your attention to people that you think are toxic for you

✦ Not being able to let go of what no longer serves you in your life

✦ Excessive self isolation and the tendency to avoid the people that you care about

✦ When you are extremely reactive to everything that happens in your life

✦ When you numb your emotions to everything that happens in your life

Some of the tools that you can use to balance your emotional health

✦ We cannot address what we cannot see ourselves so cultivate a sense of self awareness through the ability to catch your emotions.

✦ Find a balance between your work, play and rest

✦Create solo times and find activities that you can do during this times e.g. journal, meditate

✦Find an outlet where you can express yourself

How to not let negative people affect you

How to not let negative people affect you

Never let other people’s opinions outweigh what you believe to be right for you.

We have all experienced negative energy from others or being negative  to other people. Spending time with a person that exudes negative energy can be draining and before you know it you can end up taking on all the negativity.

We tend to run on patterns because most of the things that we do unless we are consciously aware of them are automatic. When you constantly interact with people that are in a negative energy loop you might be drawn into the cycle. That is why you have to be careful so that it doesn’t become your general habitual way of being.

Toxic vs Negative People

It is important to note that not everyone who is in a negative mood is toxic. Toxicity has a certain level of awareness and toxic people will more often than not stir up situations on purpose. Negativity on the other hand is cyclical where you have your highs of positive energy and other times you’ll have lows where you experience negative energy.

An entire sea of water can’t sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. Similarly, the negativity of the world can’t put you down unless you allow  it to get inside.

Tips

Stop Caring about what other people think, say or do – It is part of human nature to want to be long and be accepted. But if you allow yourself to care too much about what other people think, it becomes the catalyst that slows you down. Learn to let go of the need to please other people at your detriment.

Take ownership for your own feelings and thoughts – What people do and say most of the time is a reflection of who they are. Learn to note take things personally because if you do you will start to think that the negativity being projected on you is as a result of who you are.

You can’t live a positive life with a negative mind

Set healthy boundaries – We are all “flawed’’ and even the people that  care about you will be negative at times by  discouraging your dreams, shaming your desires or scaring you from taking deep leaps in life.

You just have to remember that no matter the situation, never abandon yourself, especially when you are brushed against someone you deeply care about.

Never let other people’s opinions outweigh what you believe to be right for you. Understand that you know you better than anyone  else and that is reason enough to trust your own judgement and the decisions that you make.

Know your triggers – When you know what triggers you, you become aware of the things to steer away from. The outside world triggers what is internal so if something negative triggers you, analyze your feelings and thoughts.

Look within by dissecting situations or people that are making you feel negative so that you can know why and distance yourself. You can start off by thinking of a situation when you were negative, how you were triggered, how you reacted and the effects of your reaction.

How to Practice Radical Self-acceptance

How to Practice Radical Self-acceptance

How to Practice Radical Self-acceptance

Radical self-acceptance is something you need to practice if you tend to worry a lot, have a hard time accepting reality as it is, struggle with a certain type of insecurity, feel the need to be extra hard or put a lot of pressure on yourself .

What is it?

Radical self-acceptance means going an extra mile with embracing who you are, without any conditions or exceptions to both your positive and negative attributes. It means trying to get rid of the but, ifs’ and what if’s in your life. It means truly accepting everything for what it is in the present moment.

The more you accept yourself and accept things for what they are, the more you’ll feel intune and in alignment with yourself.

Why you should practice self-acceptance

  • If you always have a duality within and your inner critic overtakes your life making it feel like it’s YOU against YOU all the time  then self-acceptance will be a healing path to a more wholesome life. This is because self-acceptance makes you surrender and accept yourself just as you are without needing to change anything.
Shannon ables

What self-accceptance does is open up more possibilities of succeeding because you aren’t fighting yourself along the way.

  • It is empowering because it means taking reality for what it is without pushing it in a different way. It means that you have taken the power away from your inner critic.

  • It decreases your suffering because normally we put ourselves down more than other people do and we say the harshest and meanest things to ourselves. Self-acceptance will help you let go of the shame and blame that you have put on yourself.

How

Detach – Keep an objective point of view and choose not to fight the feelings and instead let it be.

Noticing – Learn how to notice when you are not practicing self-acceptance. Catch yourself when you are overly fixated on your mistakes, flaws, frustrations and disappointments.

Empathize – Ask yourself what you’d do if someone else was going through the same and flip it around to yourself.

Practical Tools

Breathe work – Hold your breath for 5 seconds and with every breath out take it as a moment of surrender and acceptance to your current reality. It will calm you down and slow down all the rampant thoughts that are coming to you.

Mantras – Find a mantra that you can say whenever you experience resistance to self-acceptance.

The journey to Self-Acceptance

The more you accept yourself and accept things for what they are, the more you’ll feel in tune and in alignment with yourself. You’ll experience less fear, anguish and  less anxiety and it will create a domino effect in your mental and emotional well being.

7 things I wish I knew earlier

7 things I wish I knew earlier

Do what makes you happy

Most of the time we are stuck in places that make us unhappy. In turn we end up complaining and we all know that misery loves company and negative energy is passed on. At times you have you gather the courage and go after the things that really make you happy.

Have the courage to be disliked

I don’t know where I got the notion that I should strive to be liked by everyone but over the years I have come to appreciate the fact you are not everyone’s cup of tea. Don’t feel like you have to hold your tongue especially on things that are important to you on the account of trying to stay friends with someone.

Follow curiosity

I am not an expert on finding your purpose early on and to be honest in my opinion I feel like your purpose is different depending on different seasons of your life. My advice would be rather than getting stuck on finding “your purpose” follow the things that you are curious about. There lies so much satisfaction in actually trying out new things.

Be present

Time is an ILLUSION. No matter how much you concentrate on the past, you can only learn from it. The same case applies to your future, more often than not you’ll end up at your final destination but the journey there is not always as you’ve planned. The best thing that you can do is to enjoy the NOW.

Invest in yourself

There is so much R.O.I (Return on Investment) when you invest in yourself.  Investing in yourself entails putting in resources to become better. It can include learning a new skill, personal and professional growth, enrolling for courses, hiring a coach e.t.c. It is one of the ways that will lead you to become the best version of yourself.

Make time for your family and friends

The biggest asset that you will ever have is the people in your life. It is therefore crucial to intentionally curve out time to spend with the people that you love.

Take risks (DO)

Stop THINKING and start DOING. That is all I have to say in regards to that.

5 free Apps to get you more organized

5 free Apps to get you more organized

Life can at times be super overwhelming but once you start planning and putting things in place, things will start getting easier. Knowing what you are supposed to do is one thing but figuring out where to start and actually completing tasks is something totally different.

Here are 5 productivity tools to help you get more done by being organized.

Google Calendar

I started getting into Calendar blocking a few weeks ago, and  I can testify that there has been a huge improvement in my output. Calendar blocking reminds me of school time tables and I feel like it is a tool that should be used past school. I don’t know the science behind it but I feel like a visual representation of something prompts action. I have a standard template but it’s not cast on stone because things change on a daily basis.

Notion

I have tried a few project management tools in the past  and none of them worked out, but a friend mentioned Notion and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love Notion because instead of having so many apps you can combine your todolist, calendars, goals, notes just to mention but a few on one platform. It gives you the chance to organize both your business and life.

Isave Money

Although I love excel, it can at times be off putting especially when it comes to personal financial management. If you want to take control of your personal finances and monthly budget, I would highly recommend that you download this app. All you have to do is key in your income and expenses as they arise and analyze at the end of the month. The beauty about it is that the more consistent you are with it, the habit of keeping track of your money will become second nature.

Any Books

The process of  searching for books on your phone or too many shortcuts is a huge nuisance for me. I like to have all my things in one place. If you are a book lover this is an app that you will enjoy. As the name suggests, you will find any book that you want to read. Another feature that I love is if you are not sure about the meaning of a word, all you have to do is highlight the word and the meaning appears on the page. That means you don’t have to go back and forth in between apps searching for meaning.

Canva

I feel like Canva is a revolutionary app when it comes to design. It is so easy to use and has so many free templates. If you are looking to upgrade your designs, Canva would be a great place to start.
